Morecambe Bay Wills donate to 4 charities in 2024

Our Chosen Charities for 2024

Community is at the heart of everything we do! And charity is one of our 3 core values! As part of our commitment to that, we donate a percentage of our fees to our chosen charities. Here is a little bit more about who they, and why we do this.

When I set up Morecambe Bay Wills in 2019, it was always to have a charitable focus. I wanted to give back to the organisation that helped me when I lost my husband Jim. Since then, we have supported CancerCare through donations from fees, and other fundraising efforts. And we have raised more than £20,000 in this time! This includes over £2,500 from a skydive I did recently over the sand dunes in Namibia – what an experience!

For 2024, we will continue to support this amazing charity. However, we also want to help provide funds for some other wonderful organisations in our local area. So, we are proud to tell you about the 4 organisations we will be supporting this year:

CancerCare North Lancashire and South Cumbria

Morecambe Bay Wills supports CancerCare

The first of our chosen charities is …. of course, CancerCare! Our support for this wonderful charity continues!

“CancerCare is a local charity dedicated to supporting families coping with cancer or bereavement. across North Lancashire & South Cumbria.  Our expert team are here to help local people through their toughest times, providing professional help, emotional support and the collective strength to face whatever’s next. More than 93% of CancerCare’s work is funded by donations, fundraising or gifts in Wills. We are therefore extremely grateful for the generous & heartfelt support we receive from the wonderful team at Morecambe Bay Wills & Estates, who have raised over £20,000 so far for CancerCare! These amazing funds make a life-changing difference, helping to ensure that no-one in our community has to face cancer or bereavement alone”

Unique Kidz and Co

Our chosen charities also include Unique Kidz and Co – a place to play, have fun, make friends and be unique.

“Founded in 2009, the charity was set up by two mums, Denise and Jane, who were unable to find suitable childcare for their own disabled children. Fast forward to today and the charity now runs from it’s own building in Morecambe and has grown its services to include afterschool, holiday and weekend clubs for children aged 5-18, stay and play sessions for under 5’s, a siblings group, a toy library and a daytime support service for young adults with disabilities aged 18-30. The charity has lots of exciting plans for the future to help make sure young people with disabilities have as many opportunities as possible.

We are so grateful to Morecambe Bay Wills for choosing to support Unique Kidz and Co!”

Positive Futures

Morecambe Bay Wills supports Positive Futures

We are really passionate about the work that the next of our chosen charities does. Especially as they are our neighbours at White Cross Business Park, Lancaster!

“Positive Futures is a mental health and mental illness charity for the people of Lancaster and its surrounding areas. Positive Futures was established because we were worried about how welfare reform would affect people with mental illnesses and people’s mental health. We are a friendly and experienced team who supports people with a range of mental health needs.

Our hub, located in central Lancaster, has a café, an activity room in which we run health and wellbeing courses and groups, and a private therapy room. We offer group and one-to-one support led by people with lived experience. We also run an out of hours crisis café which provides judgement-free support to people experiencing distress or going through a mental health crisis”.

Morecambe FC Community Sports

Morecambe Bay Wills are friends of Morecambe FC Community Sports

And the last (but by no mean least) of our chosen charities is Morecambe FC Community Sports. Last year we became “Friends” of this fantastic community organisation!

“Our programmes include extensive work in schools; partnerships with local agencies, charities and organisations; support to government initiatives promoting health and well-being and sessions targeted at groups with special needs or from socially deprived areas.

We also work closely with the football club, to encourage engagement with the local community. Our work includes everything from involving players to promote reading in schools, to hosting match day activities. This includes our birthday parties, group visits and mascot packages. In addition to this, we also take players to visit patients at the local hospital every Christmas”.
